Jamaican plus Turkish = Jurkish – it’s obvious once you know! What isn’t obvious is how much we needed this fusion. Created by chef Naz’ own cultural background, you’ll find this new hotspot within Peckham’s Jumbi – a Hi-Fi music bar and restaurant that has a giant disco ball hanging centrally from the roof.

Her Jurkish chicken kebab sums up the cuisine perfectly: Shish kebab served on sticks, coupled with her homemade jerk chicken seasoning and sauce, served on flatbread and rice, just as it would at your local kebab shop. I loved the helim – the scotch bonnet heat on the hot honey takes you by (a pleasant) surprise. The guava glaze on the chicken works beautifully with the spring onion and garlic dip and her curry goat manti is so moreish and addictive.

Jurkish really is the place to be. On opening night, the room was filled with London’s hottest food bloggers, all with various cameras, phones and lighting equipment at the ready and their reviews have of course helped to catapult it into the spotlight, and rightly so. So, my suggestion is to get in there now! There’s currently an Easter Feast Supper Club event, where the collab goes even further with an added Iraqi twist and I forgot to mention that they also offer a Sunday Roast. Jurkish projects a truly vibrant culture clash, which is unique and exciting, so please do give it some love if you can.
